Chronic Mental Illness
Chronic mental illness is a persistent alteration in a person’s thinking, feeling and/or behavior, which creates significant difficulties in functioning normally; socially with their families, at work, or at leisure. In most cases chronic mental illness is a person, either in acute phase or in remission for most of their lives. Although consistent, appropriate treatment; i.e. staying on medication, getting regular check-ups, attending therapy and/or support groups, can minimize its disorganizing effects, a person must deal with their illness day to day for the long term.
